How we got started and more.........

Gary read the article in the Frederick News Post regarding the former owner wishing to sell the Jefferson Pastry Shoppe. He half jokingly told Donna that we should buy this.......now, we aren't going to tell you her exact words, but it was something about him being out of his mind!!!! Weeks went by, and Donna's curiosity got the best of her, she decided they needed to go look at the bakery before making a decision either way. Once inside, she was sold! Here in the middle of Jefferson was this quaint little bakery with loads of charm.......It made such an impression on her that she knew she had to buy it! Donna has worked in the bakery business for about 25 years and understood what an undertaking this would be.........so she calls her sister Melisa in Florida and suggested they become partners in the baking business. Weeks went by and Melisa finally decided to "move back home" and learn to bake. After weeks of renovations, the Jefferson Pastry Shoppe was open for business.

Melisa has come a long way in her baking skills......but we had faith, since it "runs in the family". Melisa is responsible for making the donuts and breads, as well as "entertaining" the customers with her quick wit and sense of humor.

Donna is an experienced cake decorator, winning awards for her decorating skills. She has taught others how to make candy and gingerbread houses, as well as teaching basic cake decorating.

Gary is a full time Frederick County Dairy Farmer and doesn't get to help in the bakery much........but, let's just say that he is our official donut tester!

We would not be here today if it weren't for all of the love and support (and alot of help!) from our family and friends! To all of you we say a great big THANKS!!!! All of your hard work remodeling and helping us the first few weeks really made a difference! Our current staff is the reason we are here today....you are all a blessing and your hard work is really appreciated!!!!

Located in the former "Hemps Meat Market", Jefferson Pastry Shoppe has been in operation for over 10 years. Since purchasing it in January we have made many improvements . We offer a large variety of cakes, breads, danish, donuts, pies and cookies. We also serve delicious gourmet coffee, including lattes, espresso and cappuccino.
